PERSONAL EMPLOYMENT STRATEGY
My journey from avid music listener to aspiring sound designer.
During the past two years, the effects of the pandemic have been immeasurable on the creative industries. The shift from in-person interaction to online, work-from-home, screen-to-screen collaboration has been extremely difficult, especially for students looking to gain experience in a predominately practical subject such as music production.
This sudden shift was a true test of adaptation, it was at the end of my third year of studies I truly questioned: "how am I supposed to find a job now?". With studios closing their doors, musicians finding new work, and venues selling their premises, a future within the music industries seemed impossible.
However, with the national lockdown came a national demand for entertainment - causing a sudden boom in 'at-home' media. Podcasts, Audibooks, Short Films, and online Gigging suddenly became the primary outlet for creatives who were searching for jobs, and with this immense level of production came a need for technical expertise to help guide, form, polish, and distribute these new popular forms of entertainment.
This blog will discuss how I have started my journey as a sound designer / audio engineer within the podcasting and audiobook industries.
