ABSTRACT TRAILER SOUND DUB

Year Two | Audio for Cinematic and Television | UJ908003

This task, given during my second year of studies, was one of my first open ended sound dub. The video was presented without any original audio, information on the production, or narrative, testing my creative problem solving and sound design abilities.

Planning for the video began by experimenting with differing approaches to the instruments I possess: using harmonics, non-traditional playing techniques, and the use of a bow for different stringed instruments.

Later, all foley elements were recorded within my home. The video features common dinnerware, fortunately I had the resources to record action sounds from several glasses, cutlery, and utensils. All foley was then processed using elastic audio, layering, compression, reversal, EQ, distrotion, reverb and delay.

Final Video

The final video was complete using multitrack techniques within Pro Tools, at this time I had not been introduced to the technique of multibus mixing - resulting in a final product that requires more tweaking. However, this is a showcase for how I have developed as a sound designer.

In order to create an ominious narrative, a script was written in collaborator Brooke Duncan - this was loosely based on the themes of the Matrix films. The final voice over was performed by Brooke Duncan.
